What does an OB-GYN do?
Obstetrics and gynecology is a combined specialty: the obstetrics side covers pregnancy, labour, delivery, and the postpartum period; the gynecology side covers the broader range of women's reproductive and pelvic health across the lifespan. Some OB-GYNs practice both, some focus on one (e.g. office-only gynecology, no deliveries), and a few sub-specialise in maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, or urogynecology.
Routine visits typically include a well-woman exam with a pelvic exam and (on an age-and-history-appropriate schedule) Pap testing and HPV screening. When to see an OB-GYN vs. your primary-care provider
